The Weather Company advantage

Decades of meteorological expertise, a deep understanding of consumer behavior, and data science proficiency are the bedrock of our business. These strengths, coupled with continuous innovation and an industry-leading patent portfolio, enable progress in all of our lives, which are constantly impacted by weather.

WxMix: Advanced multi-model ensemble

This system analyzes approximately 100 different weather models, using AI to weigh and combine them for every location, parameter, and timeframe to ensure accuracy where and when it matters.

GRAF® (Global High-Resolution Atmospheric Forecasting)

GRAF® is the only hourly-updating, high-precision global weather modeling system that can predict phenomena as small as individual thunderstorms virtually anywhere on earth.

Human-Over-The-Loop (HOTL) intelligence

Our team of 100+ expert meteorologists provides critical oversight to AI systems, ensuring forecasts account for meteorological complexities that algorithms alone might miss. While AI handles massive data processing at scale, our experts refine, validate, and interpret the data, providing your team with insights tailored beyond the capabilities of a purely automated system.

Real-time forecast updates

Our proprietary Forecasts on Demand (FOD) engine integrates multiple forecast sources to create personalized, real-time forecasts. This patented technology delivers hundreds of thousands of fresh forecasts every second, providing the most current weather information for your exact location.

Trust and transparency

We build trust and transparency by taking a collaborative approach to forecasting and scientific advancement. We actively partner with organizations like the National Center for Atmospheric Research to share and improve our methodologies. This collaborative spirit extends to working with companies such as NVIDIA to advance AI-based weather forecasting and visualization.

Our engagement within the broader weather scientific community, including organizations like the AMS, NWS, and NOAA, ensures we maintain scientific rigor. This open participation and collaboration grant us earlier and deeper access to the collective body of meteorological science, emerging technologies, and research from around the world.

Our legacy of innovation

For over 40 years, we’ve helped people and businesses make more informed decisions, big and small.

  • Changing climate: The UN reported 150+ unprecedented global climate disasters in 2024, including heatwaves, floods, and storms, and 2025 was estimated to be the earth’s second hottest year on record behind 2024.
  • Growing costs: There were $182.7 billion in estimated damages from weather events in the US in 2024, the 4th highest year ever.

Frequently asked questions about forecast accuracy

How is forecast accuracy measured?

Forecast accuracy is measured by comparing what was predicted against what was actually observed across a set of parameters — typically temperature, precipitation, wind, and cloud cover — over a large sample of locations and time horizons. A forecast is scored per parameter and per lead time, so a provider can be more accurate at day one and less accurate at day ten. Accuracy is always relative to the horizon: same-day forecasts are verified against observations within hours, while 14-day forecasts are scored on whether the pattern is verified at all.

What makes The Weather Company’s forecasts so accurate?

The Weather Company’s accuracy stems from our proprietary, multi-faceted approach that includes an innovative mix of technologies, the expertise of over 100 on-staff meteorologists, and cutting-edge application of AI forecasting techniques. Rather than relying on a single model, we synthesize about 100 of them through WxMix, our multi-model ensemble, which weighs each model against how it has actually performed for that specific location and parameter. Our own global model, GRAF®, adds 2–3 km resolution updated hourly.

How many people use The Weather Company to get forecasts?

On average, more than 300 million people visit our digital properties each month, based on the average of the total monthly (non-unique) users for Jan – Dec ’25 across The Weather Company digital properties and consumer products, according to internal, global data.

Does The Weather Company use its own weather model?

Yes. Our exclusive model, known as GRAF® (Global High-Resolution Atmospheric Forecasting), updates hourly and offers high-precision forecasts down to a 2-3 km resolution.

Are The Weather Company’s forecasts personalized?

Yes. Using location and preferences, we deliver hyperlocal and context-aware forecasts, including pollen, UV, air quality, and storm alerts. Powered by our proprietary Forecast on Demand (FOD) engine, The Weather Company can deliver personalized forecasts in milliseconds, producing over 25 billion forecasts daily across 2.2 billion locations worldwide.

Why should I trust The Weather Company?

With over 40 years of experience and millions of daily users, The Weather Company remains the most trusted name in weather. According to a Morning Consult, The Weather Channel brand is one of the top 6 most trusted brands in the U.S. We are also the #1 most trusted news source in America according to YouGov.

Do other apps use The Weather Company data?

Yes. Beyond The Weather Channel digital ecosystem, we power forecasts for many different business verticals around the world, including major global airlines, agricultural giants, sports leagues, and smart home systems.
